Rome is one of the most old and inimitable cities in all Europe, ancient Rome has over 2,700 years. While that time Rome has been always inhabited, and as control centre of the Roman Empire and then of the Catholic Church, it always has had a huge effect on the rest of the planet.
Many languages in Europe come from Latin, many political systems pursue the very old Roman model, and many structures all round the world use styles and skills from ancient Rome.
Today Rome is an open air museum. The city itself preserves levels of buildings across over two millenniums. If you walk through Rome it is difficult to spot a site where there aren’t ruins. Many visitors coming from more modern places are pleasantly overwhelmed by the history that bestows today’s Rome.
